Cute Dress...Several Sizes too Small!

I was shopping at a local thrift store (as I am usually) when I spotted this adorable dress. It was a skater skirt in a beautiful floral pattern...Forever 21, but size small. Of course! It was teeny. And of course a size small to Forever 21 is two or three sizes smaller than a size small anywhere else, so I was BUMMED.

But the skirt was a full, pleated skirt - a fairly long, straight piece of skirt - and I decided to buy it anyway and cut it up for the fabric.

So cute! So sad it was teeny tiny itsy bitsy.

See that fabric? It's silky, but not super shiny. It's probably the cheapest stuff out there, considering it's Forever 21, but I like the print and it's not like anything I've seen recently at Joann's.

So I just took a pair of scissors to the waistline, ripped out the zipper and ironed out a long rectangle. There's enough to make a top, but I'll probably pair this with another fabric and make something color blocked.

All nice and folded up! Pre-hemmed too.

Now all that's left is the bodice. I'm keeping it for now, in case I need a few pieces for a collar or a cap sleeve or something little.

I'd say this was worth the 1.49$ I paid for the dress. It was easy to cut up and I really like the fabric.

Would you buy something just to cut it up for fabric?
